A fabulous trend and huge highlight is the emergence of tiles with the illusion of backlit lighting. New technologies mean a natural, subtle radiance. The material itself captures and reflects light in such a way that it gives a luminous appearance, even when there is no built-in lighting behind it. Instead surface finish, colour tones, and how they interact with ambient light (daylight or room lighting) creates a glowing effect. The effect is not one of actual illumination from within, but a refined, soft sheen or glow emanating from their surface.

In soft creams, taupes and greys, French patterning in floors will be another big trend going forward. Think travertine reclaimed from old country floors; beautifully weathered, full of character, yet practical.
